The Pursuit

You're Not Alone, Meredith Andrews

I searched for love when the night came and it closed in
I was alone, but You found me where I was hiding
And now I'll never be the same
It was the sweetest voice that called my name, saying

You're not alone for I am here
Let Me wipe away your every fear
My love, I've never left your side
I have seen you through the darkest night
And I'm the One who's loved you all your life
All of your life

You cry yourself to sleep
Because the hurt is real and and the pain cuts deep
All hope seems lost with heartache your closest friend
And everyone else long gone
You've had to face the music on your own
But there is a sweeter song that calls you home, saying

You're not alone for I am here
Let Me wipe away your every fear
My love, I've never left your side
I have seen you through the darkest night
And I'm the One who's loved you all your life
All of your life

Faithful and true forever
My love will carry you

As I listened to these song lyrics this morning, I was reminded of just how much God loves us. Our God is all about the pursuit. He does not give up and He does not grow weary. He patiently, persistently, and purposely ... Pursues our hearts.

Psalm 139:7-10 says: "Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your Presence? If I go up to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in the depths, You are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there Your hand will guide me, Your right hand will hold me fast."

Our God is omnipresent. He has, is, and will always be with us. Even when we were fugitives to God Himself - when we were defying Him and going astray - He was with us. He was pursuing our hearts even then. Oh, that we would never fail to forget what He has saved us from ...

To pursue: to chase. One of the most romantic and intriguing things is the pursuit of a man after a woman's heart. A man who patiently, persistently and purposely pursues. The end result of that man's pursuit - that chase - is ultimately to win the woman's heart, that she might in the end fully be his. Our God is in the business of chasing us. He desperately desires to pursue us, that in the end our hearts may be fully His. And just as some men will go to extreme measures to pursue the woman they have their heart set upon, our God will go above and beyond in effort to capture our hearts. I am overcome with thankfulness that in those moments of loneliness, hurt and confusion - in those moments of insecurity, lack of faith and blatant disobedience ... My God continued the pursuit. He patiently, persistently and purposely pursued ... That my heart would one day be fully His.

The Pursuit of God.
Slow down ... and let Him catch you.
